Julian Hyde
Julian is CEO of Reef Check Malaysia (RCM), an NGO he helped establish in 2006. Its programs have since expanded to include a national annual coral reef survey program covering over 200 sites around Malaysia, community-based marine conservation projects and reef rehabilitation programs and education programs for schools. 2023 marks 17 years of operations for RCM. During that time the annual survey program has grown to cover over 200 sites, and RCM has established close relationships with relevant government agencies involved in reef management. In particular, it is helping Marine Park management agencies to change their approach to managing marine protected areas, with more emphasis on community engagement and participation. Julian currently works with Pacific Environment to implement its 30×30 goals in Malaysia.
