A Statement from Pacific Environment on the Racist Comments from LA City Council Members Martinez, de León and Cedillo

Date: October 12, 2022

In solidarity with our local partners, Pacific Environment condemns the conduct of Los Angeles City Council members Nury Martinez, Kevin de León and Gil Cedillo and calls all three members to resign and step away from public office. We call on the City of Los Angeles to listen deeply to its community and take the steps necessary to restore a City government that will represent its people with trust, integrity, justice and equity.

Los Angeles deserves representatives who are anti-racist and committed to liberation, respect, and love for Black and Indigenous Angelenos.

Together with local community partners, Pacific Environment has been fighting to address long standing environmental injustice at the Los Angeles and Long Beach ports. We are working to end pollution from ocean cargo shipping and to improve portside communities’ health and air quality. These communities deserve a healthier, equitable future for every living being.
