GENEVA — The Pacific Environment team is on the ground in Geneva, Switzerland for the final round of Global Plastics Treaty negotiations. The day before the start of the negotiations, Pacific Environment joined hundreds of citizens and civil society organizations from across the world who had gathered outside of the Place des Nations in Geneva to demand an ambitious and legally binding treaty.

Participants wore yellow, red and orange to visually demonstrate the plastic-fossil fuel connection and the urgency of the plastic pollution crisis.

“Plastic is in our environment and inside of us. People around the world have gathered here in Geneva to demand a strong global treaty, we just need our global leaders to hear this call during the final round of negotiations. Humanity and the planet can’t afford anything less,” said Kristen McDonald, Plastics Program senior director at Pacific Environment

About Pacific Environment

Pacific Environment works to stop climate change and ensure healthy ecosystems around the Pacific Rim for the benefit of people and our planet. We campaign to stop climate change by working to fast-track key industries toward zero carbon emissions. We focus on major global industries that have received less public attention but whose carbon emissions are significant and still growing: the maritime shipping and the petrochemical (plastics) industries.
