The Pacific Environment and Resources Center (USA) Chongqing Representative Office (“Pacific Environment”) is recruiting a qualified candidate to advance solutions to plastic pollution issues under our zero-waste cities project.

Pacific Environment is committed to protecting the ecological environment of the Pacific region by empowering grassroots environmental organizations and facilitating the exchange of domestic and international experiences. Our current areas of focus include environmental education, pollution control, environmental law, zero-waste cities, and collaborative pollution prevention and control for dual-carbon targets.


Job type: full time 24 month staff position (with potential to renew)

Compensation: commensurate with experience, alongside a full social benefits package, plus reimbursement for work-related expenses (travel, communications, printing, etc).

Location: this is a China-based position with flexible work location within most regions in  China, home base available, frequent domestic travel and occasional international travel will be required.


Job Duties:

We believe that tackling plastic pollution requires reduction at the source. This position requires engaging in strategic planning, close collaboration with PE’s thematic partners and providing support to them in their local projects. It also involves closely monitoring international and domestic policies related to plastic pollution, organizing or collaborating on research report writing, and providing suggestions and inputs to decision makers and the plastic industry.

The job responsibilities may include collaborating with the team to write reports, managing funded projects, providing project planning suggestions, organizing and representing the organization at relevant workshops in the field, organizing discussions on the issue, and other related tasks.




This position will report directly to the China Regional Director and work closely with other staff members affiliated with our Chongqing Representative Office to implement their work plan.


Experience/skills desired: The ideal candidate should possess fluent English language skills and have working experience in one of several of the following the field of plastic pollution, zero carbon strategies, zero-waste city development, or related areas. We expect the applicant to demonstrate keen observation skills regarding the issues at hand and have a strong ability to learn and quickly absorb new information. The candidate should also be capable of working independently, completing challenging tasks under tight deadlines, and adapting to domestic and international travel (an average of one to two trips per month). Pacific Environment particularly values candidates with the following skills and experiences:


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent;
  • At least 3 years work experience in relevant field (Zero-waste city development, environmental policy, plastic pollution, plastic industry analysis, pollution prevention and control, climate change and energy analysis.);
  • Chinese fluency and excellent Chinese writing skills;
  • English proficiency (ability to conduct everyday business in English).
